My name is Kira "Kayla" Zara. I'm a medic for the emperor's army. I started this journal to record my journey around the army lines helping those in danger of losing their lives.
December 9, 1914-Why My People Are in The War
The reason why my people are in this war is because of the assassination of the archduke of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. I remember when the archduke and his wife returned, died, from the archduke's tour to the Slavic people in his uncle's empire. The emperor's nobles thought the person behind the assassination attack on the archduke and his wife was in Siberia . The emperor sent an ultimatum to the people of Siberia, demanding that Austria-Hungary be a part of the investigation into the assassination of the archduke and his wife as a way to avoid war. The people of Siberia refused and then the mess with Russia, Germany, France, and Great Brittan began. The people of Siberia called abound the "champion of the Slavic people", Russia. The emperor called abound our old ally, Germany to equal the amount of soldiers that Russia and Siberia had together. Russia then called abound one of their old allies, France. To face the problem that France and Russia caused, Germany invaded one of the countries that surrounded France. The people of Great Brittan got mad over this and joined the French.
Diary Date: November 12, 1914
Time: Mid afternoon
The screams of dying men fill the air. I feel that we should be able to do something besides sit here waiting for the gunfire to stop, that way we can gather the wounded and the dying. Wait, what is that sound? OH,NO! NOT...
Date: November 30, 1914
Time: Unknown
I was hit with a grenade that was supposed to hit another trench. I was sent back home after surgery to remove all the pieces of the grenade. Mother kept worring over all my wounds, saying that being a medic was suppose to be safe. I'll be sent back to the battle field next week. Date: December 9, 1914 Time: Unknown
Well, I spent my day stocking the supply shelf in the makeshift treatment room here in the trenches. The room smells of infections and diseases that have been hopefully stopped long enough for the infected soldiers to be taken to the hospital. But sometimes the infections take over, stopping the medicine before the medicine can reach the injured part of the body.
December 10,1914-Battle Plan For The Austrian-Hungarian Troops
Because I am a medic, I really don't know what the battle plan is for the Austrian-Hungarian army, but as a medic, you learn a lot about weapons that the enemy is using because each weapon leaves a different wound and the medics are always in different trenches gathering different wounded soldiers . Some soldiers are wounded by bullets from the guns, others are wounded by grenades.
Diary Date: December 10, 1914 Time: Unknown
Well, today I was in one of the foulest trenches I have ever seen or smelled in my life. I hopefully save around a dozen lives. Half of them might not make it though the night, but at least they will be at the hospital. There at the hospital are more treatments than what we can give here on the battlefield. That was earlier on in the day, maybe early morning. I will be doing the night shift in the makeshift treatment room here in the trenches.
May 14,1914-German Propaganda Poster
My mother sent me this German poster that is calling for more people to aid the medics that are already here on the battlefields and a letter asking me to come home and if I have seen any new faces out in the trenches. She thought that is would boost my spirits up. The poster is calling for more medics or for people to aid the medics in any way they can.
Diary
Date: December 24, 1914
Time: Around 11o'clock in the evening
Well, today I got presents from home. Probably two from every single one of my family members back home. Maybe more are on their way here. One or two of them have cards saying, "Happy early birthday With lots of love, Mom or Cousin Kyle." me of my fellow medics did not get anything from home, so I'm going to give a little bit of my Christmas gifts to them and the next time I write to my family, I will tell them what I did saying that they loved the gifts I gave them which they(my family members) gave me. I have also heard about some of the Germans soldiers crossing the dead zone to spent the holidays with the French and British soldiers. From what I heard from the shouting, the Germans were able to get the enemy soldiers to not fire at them to spread a little Christmas cheer to the enemy soldiers.
December 12, 1915 Russia's Exit And The United States of America's Entry in The War Well, thanks to the revolts in Russia, the Russians are pulling back their troops to try and focus on the revolts in their homeland and thanks to the Germans, the United States of America is taking Russia's place in the war. Their president had asked the Germans to stop bombing ships with neutral passengers, and the Germans refused . The president of the USA then denounced Germany. This will greatly decreased our own chances of winning, which was not the best even at the beginning of the war. All we wanted to do was to find out who killed the archduke and his wife! Even with the men that come to refresh the old troops, we don't even stand a chance against those industrialized countries.
Diary
Date: May 18, 1916
Time: Late morning-early afternoon
I have be given permission to leave the battlefield. Now I can see my family members again! However I fear for the lives that will not survive the battles while I am having a good time at home. Soldiers rarely go home expect in coffins or disable for life or when their time in this war is up(soldiers are signed on at the beginning of this war). I fear for all of the Austrian-Hungarians here that this war will not be last of the Great War.
July 12, 1918-My nation's reaction to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles
I don't think our emperor is not happy with the terms of agreement in the Treaty of Versailles. With the lost of his nephew and his wife at the start of the war and now the lost of his empire at the end of the war, the emperor is sure to be unhappy; but I heard that the nobles of his court are more than unhappy, that they were greatly upset over the treaty. The treaty insured that our Slavic lands go to Serbia and the Italian speaking to Italy. I also hear that the treaty insured that Germany was very weak. The treaty also broke the empire down in smaller nations.

It feels good to be back home, though I've been having nightmares about the battles that I saw and the lives that would have been save if they never signed into the army of the former emperor of Austria-Hungry. When I got back home several weeks ago, there was a surprise party to welcome me back home along with several soldiers that were placed in different trenches that were maybe 2,000 kilometers away. I think that they are having a rougher time adjusting to this time of peace. Maybe they are, but they most prefer to to stick close to their friends. I still keep in touch with the medics that I gave to back in 1914 because after that year the medics were each a different trench to work on. Now that this war is over, I can get back on track with my life.
